What snow?

I love snow.  But only when I don’t have to walk in it.

There’s something magical about fluffy precipitation.  And only if you don’t want to walk in it!  As I discovered this morning, as I trudged very carefully in the melting slush that was falling snow last night!  I let out a few panicked yelps as I discovered that my choice of footwear did not have any proper traction!

The next thing on my to-do list: find boots that I can wear to work that has traction!

And, yes, despite its obvious dangers, I still love snow.

P.S.  Harwich has not had any snow worth mentioning though.  I can’t help feeling that I’ve been left out by Mother Nature!

Rethink, regroup maybe?

The weekend’s been a bit of a washout.  It rained.  Really hard.  As I was coming out of the hairdressers’ it was, as the Met Office predicted, showery.  Very showery.  No make that heavy on the showery.  But because I was a girl scout (I was, really!  I wore the green Girl Scouts of the Philippines uniform for 6 years!) I brought with me an umbrella.  Said rain would have, most probably, put a damper on the proceedings at the Colchester Food and Drink Festival.  Lower Castle Park can get squelchy when it rains.  I was looking forward to going to the food festival today.  So the rain wasn’t welcome!  Except that I managed to get 2 important things done: my hair AND get dim sum from my favourite Chinese supermarket.  I got beef and pork (and shrimp) siu mai, bean curd rolls and dumplings for frying!

I was, however, lamenting my choice of footwear.  I have allowed my lovely ballet flats (my favourite pair!) to be soaked in rain water.  Not a good thing, I don’t think!  I may have to replace them.  It’s a good thing they’re a Clark’s shoes standard and, thank goodness, there is a sale on!  Mind you, that particularly design may not be on sale, but we shall see!

On to other things, I am a tiny bit disappointed that my giveaway hasn’t worked.  Mind you, I haven’t really done anything to promote the giveaway so that may be the first thing I should address.  I will wait until the last day, 6 July and see if there is any interest.  If not, I shall go back to the drawing board and have a rethink!  Maybe attempt Rafflecopter again?

I thought if I did too much to prepare, I would be overthinking the whole blog giveaway thing.  But I think this time, overthinking may be the best thing.  I want to run a really good blog giveaway and I want it to be exciting!  So after 1AM on 6 July, if I have no takers, I’m going to try to give the iPhone case again.  I just shake my head at the seemingly sloppy way I’ve prepped for this giveaway!  In the words of Mr Knightley (Jane Austen’s Emma), “Badly done!”

On another note, I am quite surprised at how much I love my hair.  It was cut by someone else and I wasn’t quite sure I liked how they handled my hair.  Thankfully, it wasn’t something I was unhappy about.  What a relief!  The lady that cut my hair no longer worked at the salon that I went to.  It took me almost 2 years to find someone to do my hair in a way that I was comfortable with.  And now she’s moved!  I was given her number and I’ve sent her a text message.  I hope she sends me a text message back so that I can go where she works!  Unless, of course, she doesn’t text back!  Scary thought!

Booting up!

I am currently humming I Enjoy Being A Girl from Flower Drum Song in my head.  You know, the one that starts with “I’m a girl and by me that’s only great, I am proud that my sillhouette is curvy, that I walk with a sweet and girlish gait, with my hips kind of swivelly and swervy…”?

I’m humming this because I’m wallowing in girlish delight until I am absolutely pruney.  I am being the girly-girl that I am and being positively giddy about a pair of shoes!  Imelda Marcos I am not, but a good pair of shoes that love my feet is definitely worth blogging about!  I bought the most gorgeous pair of wedged boots online last weekend at 60% off the retail price (there is something to be said about buying shoes late in the season!).  They arrived yesterday.  Mind you, I had misgivings because I’ve bought beautiful boots before but boy did they punish my feet (and no matter how many times I told myself that they just needed breaking in, if I used the boots, at the end of the day, my feet would be screaming at me to get the bloody things off!  I have yet to bring myself to bring the beautiful things to either the charity shop or put it in the balikbayan box so my mum or sister can find someone else to love the boots.  I’ve used them a total of, count ’em, 4 times!)!  But these beautiful things were different.  I put them on and they seemed to hug my feet.  They seemed to wrap themselves around my feet!

I bravely booted up this morning, gingerly walking down the stairs that led up the flat to walk to the train station.  My steps were slow, but steady and very stable.  I had never felt so balanced in wedge heels before.  So my steps became less tentative and quicker.  After all, I was walking to the station to get on a train that was 12 minutes away from leaving.  I made it to the train station in 7 minutes with my feet sighing in happiness!  Throughout the day, walking to and from places, up and down stairs, running from one office to another (yes, I had a VERY busy day!), my feet felt like they were protected.  I think I bought the shoes that had the right heel height and the right snugness.  My feet haven’t felt this comfy in heels in a very long time!

I have struggled with finding shoes that fit my feet right since moving to the UK.  The only shoes I’ve ever really worn comfortably are flat shoes and well, flat shoes aren’t always the best things to wear as they aren’t always the most appropriate (and while I adore ballerina flats, we all know sometimes a bit of heel is important–especially in formal situations).  But tonight, all is well in my shoe world.  Because I’ve found wedges that hug my feet.  The next goal is to find heels that I can stomp in.

These are days when I wish there was an SM Shoemart nearby!
